As Time Goes By by Dooley Wilson (1942). This song became famous through the film Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. As Time Goes By was Joe’s choice for the Weekly Song Challenge on Singeo.com. I’ve used the music track of Brian Ferry’s cover.
Time in a bottle by Jim Groce (1972). This was my choice for the Weekly Song Challenge this week. Time in a Bottle is an interesting song because the verses are in a minor key, while the chorus shifts to major (D). Writing a harmony for this song took me some time, but once again, it was a great learning experience. Hans and I decided to use selfies from over the years for the video clip, as the lyrics really resonate with us.
Cette semaine, j’ai choisi une chanson qui figure sur ma liste de souhaits depuis un moment : Time in a Bottle de Jim Croce (de 1972).
Time in a Bottle est une chanson intéressante, car les couplets sont en mineur tandis que le refrain passe en majeur. Il m’a fallu pas mal de temps pour écrire une harmonie (2ème voix) pour cette chanson, mais j’en ai encore beaucoup appris. Nous avons choisi d’utiliser des selfies pris au fil des années pour le clip, car les paroles nous correspondent vraiment.
I have written my second piece Poppa’s wedding as an exercise for the Method Level 9 on pianote.com (songwriting). Had to work with verses and chorus, also 7ths. My inspiration was the wedding of Poppa, the wife of Viking King Rolo (who seemed to be one of my ancestors 🙄). It is in minor, because it’s not a happy event. Poppa was abducted by the Viking king, and her father was killed in the process.

Honesty by Billy Joel was Derek’s song choice for the Weekly Song Challenge.I had a lot of fun to play with the layered voices and as always Hans enjoyed playing around with images generated by the AI.
Honesty de Billy Joel était le choix de chanson de Derek pour le Weekly Song Challenge (défi musical hebdomadaire). J’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à jouer avec les voix superposées, et comme toujours, Hans s’est amusé à manipuler les images générées par l’IA.
Window of my eyes by the Dutch band Cuby and the Blizzards. Singing and playing the piano. I made a backing track with iRealPro to accompany my piano playing. In the intermezzo I improvised on my keyboard with Blown speaker, which gives an effect of an electric guitar. After that I’ve sung the lyrics (in some parts you can hear Harry Muskee, the lead singer of Cuby, in the background). Hans did the video editing. Quite a project that we worked on with great pleasure. Hope you like it.
Window of my eyes du groupe néerlandais Cuby and the Blizzards. Chant et piano. J’ai créé un playback avec iRealPro pour accompagner mon jeu au piano. Dans l’intermède, j’ai improvisé au clavier avec un haut-parleur Blown, ce qui donne un effet de guitare électrique. J’ai ensuite chanté les paroles (on entend parfois Harry Muskee, le chanteur de Cuby, en fond sonore). Hans a réalisé le montage vidéo. Un projet passionnant sur lequel nous avons travaillé avec beaucoup de plaisir. J’espère qu’il vous plaira.
