MA TANTE CHANTE

Here’s my cover of Any Major Dude Will Tell You by Steely Dan (Album Katy lied, 1973). My fellow vocal student Barbara picked the song this time. I didn’t know it before, but quickly came to appreciate. It’s beautifully crafted, with subtle harmonic richness and a laid-back groove that hides quite tricky phrasing. Getting the vocal flow right was a real challenge in itself. For my cover, I added some harmony in the chorus to try to give it the warmth and reassurance that the song carries.

At its core, the song feels like a quiet conversation with a friend, offering comfort and perspective during difficult moments, and reminding us that even when things fall apart, they have a way of coming back together again. As always,Hans did the producing and the video.

Voici ma reprise de Any Major Dude Will Tell You de Steely Dan (album Katy Lied, 1975). Cette fois-ci, c’est Barbara (une autre élève de chant) qui a choisi le morceau. Je ne le connaissais pas auparavant, mais je l’ai rapidement apprécié. Il est magnifiquement construit, avec une richesse harmonique subtile et un groove détendu qui cache un phrasé assez délicat. Trouver le bon flux vocal a été un vrai défi en soi. Pour ma reprise, j’ai ajouté des harmonies dans le refrain afin de souligner la chaleur et le réconfort que dégage la chanson.

Au fond, ce morceau ressemble à une conversation intime avec un ami : il apporte du réconfort et une certaine perspective dans les moments difficiles, en nous rappelant que même lorsque tout semble s’effondrer, les choses finissent par se recomposer.
