My cover of My Funny Valentine (written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart). I’ve chosen the version of Herbie Hancock (album Gershwin’s World 1998) with Sting on vocals. I love Hancock’s music and it was the best fit for my voice. It was Matt’s choice for our Song Challenge.
My Funny Valentine is not a classic love song in the sense of perfect romance. Instead, it is about a love that is imperfect yet sincere. The song comes from the musical Babes in Arms and is sung by someone who describes their lover as a bit unusual, awkward, even “not attractive” by conventional standards.
