My cover of Just the Two of Us (by Bill Withers, album Winelight, 1981). I was immediately happy with Sue’s choice for the Singeo Fortnight Song Challenge, this song has a special kind of calm, soulful confidence that really invited me to explore phrasing and feeling.
In the chorus, I added a second and third vocal harmony, letting the voices lean into each other rather than aiming for perfection. Toward the end, I allowed myself some playful freedom with the outro, weaving different fragments of Just the two of us together in overlapping ways. It felt a bit like turning the song inside out and seeing how many shapes it could take while still staying true to its heart.
What I love about this song is its honesty. It’s not dramatic or flashy, it’s about connection, commitment, and the quiet strength of togetherness. I had a lot of fun making this one, and that joy is hopefully something you can hear in the final take.

Dans le refrain, j’ai ajouté une deuxième et une troisième voix, en laissant les voix s’appuyer les unes sur les autres plutôt que de viser la perfection. Vers la fin, je me suis accordé une liberté plus ludique avec l’outro, en entrelaçant différents fragments de Just the Two of Us de manière superposée. C’était un peu comme retourner la chanson sur elle-même et découvrir combien de formes elle pouvait prendre tout en restant fidèle à son cœur.
Ce que j’aime dans cette chanson, c’est son honnêteté. Elle n’est ni dramatique ni tape-à-l’œil : elle parle de connexion, d’engagement et de la force tranquille du fait d’être ensemble. J’ai pris énormément de plaisir à la réaliser, et j’espère que cette joie s’entend dans la prise finale.
